The boys swim team, finishing its second season as a winter sport at MHS after being reinstated last year, competed strongly at State in Topeka on Feb. 16 and 17.

“I was actually disappointed,” junior Luke Buller said. “I had planned to make it into the finals in our 200 Free Relay. We all wanted to advance.”

According to Buller, the relay team consisting of sophomores Colton Campbell and Matt Stucky, junior Kaleb Warren and Buller, could have performed better at the tournament.

The 200 Free Relay team qualified for State in Newton on Jan. 4, and Warren qualified for State in the 100 Butterfly at the El Dorado Invitational on Jan. 6.

Warren placed 14th overall at the State tournament and was the only placer from MHS.

Buller said that next season he is looking to finish in the finals of both 200 relays. Buller is also hoping for the continued success of a teammate.

“Kaleb [Warren] should place in the top five at State [next year],” Buller said.

For this season, Buller said that it has gone well, with good representation at State and a quality season overall.

As for now, with the swim season over, Buller is most excited for having more free time after school as well as on the weekends.

“[I’m looking forward to] Just doing what I feel like,” he said.

As for most memorable moments, one winning moment stands out to Buller.

“I enjoyed consecutive wins against [junior] Jared Pavlik in NFL Blitz on N64 [at State],” he said. “I beat him up over and over again.”
