I have always loved school. Spending eight hours, five days a week is what I call fun. And so the idea of going to school until June just brightens my day.

Recently, the Board of Education reviewed a calendar proposal that would see the first day of school on Aug. 31 and the last day on June 3.

Here are my top three reasons for applauding this phenomenal idea:

1. Shorter Christmas Break

Let’s break it down: You really only need one day to see your family and friends. Too much togetherness can really drive people crazy. And no one could possibly need longer than two hours to rip into those much anticipated presents.

We need 26 hours to celebrate this wonderful holiday and 10 hours to sleep. After our day and a half of break, we can eagerly pile back into our cars and drive back to our second home: school.

Maybe after we arrive from our extended break, the teachers can be kind enough to contribute an extra lesson or two just to get us back in the swing of things.

2. Shorter Spring Break

See reason number one, with the exception of gifts.

3. Finishing school in June

Yes, I am excited about furthering my education until June. That extra week will boost my energy tremendously. One more week of school means one more week of new additions to my summer reading list.

Also, I will have the privilege of postponing my vacation plans, something for which everyone strives.

To wrap this up, I would like to say “Go get ’em BOE!” You know what to do: vote yes for this time-efficient plan.
