Seasons like the one the girls basketball team is having this year, only come around once in a while. The girls are living it up and enjoying every minute of it.

“I love playing with this group of girls!” Brette Ulsaker, jr., said. “We’ve been together for so long, so it makes everything fun.”

The ladies have racked up some major accomplishments this season.

These accomplishments include staying undefeated overall, as well as being AVCTL Division I champs in the league’s first year. Some other accomplishments, however, stand out more to the girls.

“[One accomplishment so far this season is] Ashley Sweat and I placing in the shooting contest for the [Mid America Classic] tournament,” Ulsaker said.

In preparation for sub-state next week, the ladies went through a grueling three weeks of AVCTL play, which caps off tonight at Hutchinson.

“I expect us to win [against Hutch],” Kendra Schaefer, sr., said. “If we play like we did the first time we played them, we will be unstoppable.”

In the last three weeks, the Lady Pups have sealed the deal on being AVCTL champs, defeating Maize 55-30, Derby, 72-21, Salina Central, 88-27 and South, 63-48.

The ladies also defeated Winfield last Saturday at home, 73-39.

Sub-state will take place next week at home and Valley Center.

The girls play on March 3 and the finals will be played on March 4.
