I walked into the IMAX Theater expecting to be disappointed with the typical overdone sci-fi show, not to mention the bad special effects, especially since the movie was the sequel to the not highly praised 1982 movie Tron. As Tron: Legacy took shape, I discovered just how wrong I was.
At the beginning of the film, the audience meets the main character, Sam (Garrett Hedlund,) a college dropout who has little to his life besides his motorcycle. Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) tells Sam of a mysterious page that he received from father’s office, which spikes Sam’s interest since his dad disappeared when he was a kid. After hearing about the mysterious page, Sam goes on the hunt for his father. While inspecting his father’s computer, Sam enters a virtual world.

After entering The Grid, Sam is instantly fighting in the virtual version of gladiatorial games against computer programs, which is brought to life by IMAX. I could feel every move. It was like I was actually in the arena.
After escaping the battle arena, Sam accidentally runs into Quorra (Olivia Wilde) who takes him to his dad (Jeff Bridges). The two reconcile and Sam tells him that he will help him leave The Grid. In response, his dad warns him of the program that was created to ensure perfection, Clue ( also played by Bridges,) who went evil. The battle to leave The Grid consumes the remainder of the movie.
Looking back on the movie, I applaud the father-son duo. They could have made it a teary reunion, but they kept it a raw reunion of loved ones.

Tron: Legacy avoids the pitfalls it could have entered and embraced a realistic portrayal of an impossible situation to become one of the best movies of 2010.
