The gym overflowed with Falcon spirit on Friday, October 2nd at the first Spirit Spectacular assembly of the year. The event was filled with exciting performances that helped raise Falcon pride throughout the student body.

The marching band began the assembly by welcoming students with warm, upbeat music as they took their seats. Once everyone was settled, the Charismatics choir took the floor to present the National Anthem. These brilliant performances set the scene for a lively assembly.

The Boys’ Varsity Water Polo team went on next to perform the Haka. The Haka is a traditional Māori dance from New Zealand meant to boost the team’s energy and unity. The choreography was certainly fierce and sure to inspire fear in any opponents they face this year.

The CV Pep Squad followed the water polo team’s spirit of confidence, brandishing new and improved uniforms. Their impressive acrobatic feats proved that they are Falcons who soar high above their competition.

"I love spirit assemblies because they give us a chance to raise Falcon spirit. It is really important because when everybody feels our school pride, we all come together in unity," senior Grace Kim said.

After the cheerleaders came the much-anticipated skits developed by the homecoming court.

The first skit starred Freshman Prince Amir Hajimirsadhegi and Princess Christina Farestveit. The skit was a parody of James Bonds movies, in which Hajimirsadhegi overcame certain obstacles to finally reach Farestveit.

The second skit featured Sophomore Prince David Lyons and Princess Dayton Wheeler. In this skit, Wheeler was a beautiful girl who all the boys tried to impress. However, after many guys fail to woo her, Lyons comes in and wins her over.

The third skit involved Junior Prince Joe Anderson and Princess Paige Farestveit. In this skit, Anderson and his friends dressed up as superheroes to try to save Farestveit and her friends from villains. In the end, Anderson appeared in a Superman costume and saved his damsel in distress.

Next came the senior skits. The first Senior Prince and Princess were Nick Dragovich and Brianna Akahashi. Their skit parodied Taylor Swift’s music video of "You Belong With Me." Akahashi portrayed a nerdy girl in love with Dragovich, whose friends kept them apart. In the end, she underwent a dramatic makeover, and the two are allowed to be together at last.

The second senior Prince and Princess were ASB President Wayne Park and Brooke Matherly. The skit involved Park using magical genies to find happiness. After failing to find happiness as the lead of an amazing dance crew and later as a pimp, he finally succeeds by winning the "most beautiful girl in the world," Matherly.

The final skit involved Senior Prince Daniel Olson and Princess Meghan West. The skit revolved around the competition for the Best Celebrity Couple Award. The skit parodied many celebrity couples including Rihanna and Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus, and Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas. Eventually, "Kanye West" interrupted the performance and took down a security officer, Joe Jonas, and Billy Ray Cyrus before being stopped by Olson who won over West.

After all the skits were over, there was a quick game of dodgeball followed by the competition between the grades fot the loudest cheer. Although every grade performed well in both competitions, the seniors, of course, could not be beaten.

All-in-all, the assembly served its purpose of inspiring Falcon spirit into students.

"Every high school student has the same basic experience: we all study, go to classes, eat lunch, do homework; it is all the same routine. School spirit helps to break this routine, and give us something to talk about," Park said.
