Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston sizzle on-screen for the first time together in Love Happens.

Standing out in the sea of typical clichéd love stories, Love Happens mixes fresh romance with tragedy, producing a subtle romantic comedy with heart.

Self-help grief book author, Burke Ryans (Eckhart) avoids facing his tragic past while helping others to deal with their own life tragedies.

Traveling to Seattle to teach a week-long "how-to-get-over-mourning-effectively" workshop, Ryan meets flower-arranger Eloise (Aniston) at the Hyatt Hotel. Intrigued by her odd ways, a hazy friendship forms between the two, marking the beginning of a romance in just a couple of days.

Playing the hypocrite, Ryans continues to mourn the death of his wife, with Eloise helping him to move on.

Managing to stray away from typical lover’s quarrel scenes halfway through the movie, Love Happens twists the plot. Producing tear-jerking moments at the most unexpected times, the film cleverly uses almost insignificant elements – like a parrot – to keep the film light and unburdened. The romance between Ryans and Eloise progresses at a careful pace, keeping the story interesting, but not too overbearing.

Senior Sarah Shin admires the exchange of encouragement between the characters in the movie.

"I think their on-screen romance was cute. They were timid at first, but they [slowly] opened themselves up and gave each other a chance. [After all], love happens," Shin said excitedly.

True to some typical plots of clichéd love stories, Eloise stays by Ryans’ side, trying to convince the widowed man to reunite with his in-laws. Ryans, on the other hand, proves to be a self-conflicting character that refuses to let go of his past.

Although just debuting as an on-screen duo, the comfort between Eckhart and Aniston sustains their characters’ subtle, developing love story. The couple’s chemistry remains constant throughout the film, helping to balance their characters’ conflicting personalities.

Senior April Ratanavaravut appreciates the difference of the movie from a typical cliché love story.

"I think it is a cute movie. It takes the regular romantic comedy cliché, and creates a twist to it. It is [definitely] worth seeing," Ratanavaravut commented.

Making his directing debut, director and co-screen writer, Brandon Camp, proves to have ideas that are able to translate into amazing stories and films. His clever use of elements in the movie adds to the film’s individuality, making his first directing project a successful hit.

Overall, Love Happens delivers a sense of emotion, and presents a cleverly thought-up, extraordinary storyline.
