The advisement program that was instituted into WHS curriculum this year will be amended for next year’s students and staff.

The class that occurs every third Wednesday was implemented to help students form a one-on-one relationship with a teacher or staff member.

Though most students and staff received the program postively, the administration has decided to modify the program for next year.

Instead of the program occuring every third Wednesday of every month, it will occur every second Monday. This change in schedule is due to the teachers that were absent during the period.

"We were losing a lot of teachers on Wednesdays due to district workshops," John Pierzchala, assistant principal of student services, said.

Other than the day of week and frequency of the program, advisement will follow the same schedule and continue to act as a link between students and teachers.

"The period was successful in giving students a chance to connect with an adult on campus," Pierzchala said.

Students also found the program to be helpful in preparing them for a number of challenges in the future.

"I enjoyed everything about advisement," freshman Brianna Yslava said. "I liked that I made good friends and participated in fun activities."

The program will also continue to incorporate Link Leaders into freshman advisory classes.

"Early data has shown that this year freshman were much more involved, attendance was higher, and there were less discipline problems because of Link Crew during advisement," Pierzchala said

"The Link Leaders were able to go into the classes with the freshmen and present a practiced lesson," Link Crew President Mark Majkrzak said.

Not only did freshmen benefit from the program, but upperclassmen leaders enjoyed the opportunity as well.

"Being a Link Leader was very rewarding because I developed genuine friendships with people I would have normally been drawn to," junior Holly Green said.

According to Pierzchala, the administration was able to discuss the positives and negatives of the program, and the day and time of the week in which the program occurred were the most glaring problems.

"I feel that the program was a waste of time," junior Julianne Wood said. "I could have used that time to study and do research for classes."

"I did not enjoy that the teachers were required to concentrate on a certain topic each week," senior Annie Kitch said.

"I really enjoyed the reflection time," senior Joey Amorin said. "The program would be improved by providing a direct time to focus on different colleges and a lesson on financial education and literacy."
