Teague High School

One moment we all remember during our high school years is our first day of freshmen year. The butterflies in your stomach and the worries of how difficult your classes will be help describe the nervousness that you have the whole week before school even starts. What if the upperclassmen don’t like me? What if I struggle in Mrs. Persano’s class like the majority of THS students before me have? These are just a couple of the many questions running through your head. Not to mention the fact that you’ve hardly worked on your summer English project.

“My senior year, I learned that you can’t procrastinate on anything!” said Morgan Hall when asked on what she learned her freshmen year. “I’d always end up saving over half of a project to do the night before it was due and stay up until 2 in the morning trying to finish it.” If you start your project right away instead of waiting until the last minute, it takes a lot of stress off you. Besides, it looks great on you if you turn in an essay or project a day early!

When asked the same question, Tiffany Ballard answered “I learned that you have to open up a lot! My freshmen year, I was in band, a cheerleader, and I joined student council. Joining organizations and teams are great ways to meet new people and have fun throughout the school year.”

“You really have to focus on your grades,” said Reagan Mathison. “It’s hard to keep track of your grades with all the other things you have going on, but grades are crucial. If you make low grades freshmen year, it’s hard to bring your GPA up before senior year. A low GPA doesn’t look good for colleges or your future.”

Although freshmen year is a lot of work, it should be fun too. Be sure to keep these few tips in mind and you should be all set for your freshmen year!
