Our country has stood as a beacon of freedom for centuries now, shining our message across foreign sees and into other countries, striving to show how freedom has been given to those who have earned it.
America did not earn its freedom easily though. Through wars and seas of blood and gore, freedom was won triumphantly in battles that will never be forgotten. One way to never forget the ones who died to save us from being brought under another country is through one well-known holiday celebrated on the last Monday in May- Memorial Day.
In the beginning, Memorial Day was a holiday that just commemorated the fallen Union soldiers in the Civil War, thus provoking the old Confederate states to not celebrate the holiday. It was not until after WWI that the southern states recognized the holiday as a day to commemorate all the fallen soldiers of every war fought for independence.
Many to this day have started to ignore Memorial Day and have forgotten the true meaning of it. Multiple people no longer have parades or honor fallen soldiers, including full cities and states.
It is time to remember those that fought to keep our country free. On Memorial Day, remember the true reason the USA has the right to worship as they please, breathe as they please, and live how they please. If not for our fallen soldiers, who knows how the US would be to this day, if even the same at all.
