The dance floor is not bouncin’ with the latest jam and minutes pass by with students complaining about the music. The clock ticks away and finally the famous Jerk song plays, catching the attention of even the furthest students. A student shouts with enthusiasm, “Ah, that’s my jam!” “You’re a jerk, you’re a jerk, you’re a jerk, you’re a jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk” plays repeatedly as jerkers jerk all over the dance floor and others do the “Reject.”
“The Jerk,” created by the new and rising rap duo Ben J and Legacy, has hit pop culture all over America. Their group, called New Boys, has made popular hits on You-Tube, making themselves known for their music and dance moves. Better known as the “New Boyz,” the duo has created new dance moves embracing four different dances, the Jerk, the Reject, the Dip, and the Pin-drop. Of these four, the more popular ones are the Jerk and the Reject.
The Jerk seems as if a drunken monkey is wobbling around, swinging its arms across left to right, back and forth. The lower you get, the more jerkin’ you get. The next popular dance move is the Reject, which is the constant motion of skipping backwards but staying at one spot. All in all, these dance moves are unique by the way the individual dancer performs them. When you approach a Pep Rally or a school dance, you are bound to hear the Jerk with all the exuberant “peeps” “jerkin” and “rejectin,” bouncin’ to the beat of the song. You just have to go with the flow, and the Jerk is flowin’.
Not only has the New Boyz started a new pop culture movement through the Jerk, but they also created a fashion statement with their skin-tight brightly colored fluorescent jeans. A fashion statement of rainbow-colored clothing from head-to-toe is bound to turn heads. If you ask anyone, they will most likely tell you the Jerk is in. “The Jerk is cool. It looks nice when you do it too. If you do not know how to do it, you just look stupid. So next time you come to a school pep rally “get Jerkin,” said Shyanne Goff.
