Congratulations to the three high school teams who represented Hancock County last week at the National Academic Games Tournament in Wirtz, VA. Competing in Junior Division (Grades 9-10) was “Zum Anfang,” comprised of  Elizabeth Akers, Katarina Alatis, Morgan Goff, Ontasia Petteway, and Stephen White. Competing in Senior Division (Grades 11-12) were “Slow Jamz” and “The Inner Circle.” Members of “Slow Jamz” included Jake Kaminski, Michael Mastromichalis, Harry Olenick, and Xavier Veal. “The Inner Circle” consisted of Timmy Barnes, Evan Greco, Ben Suter, and Markus Tustin.

In Junior Division, “Zum Anfang” placed first in LinguiSHTIK, Overall Language Arts, Presidents, Overall Social Studies, and Overall Sweepstakes; second in Propaganda and World Card; and third in Equations, Onsets, and Overall Mathematics. Stephen White of “Zum Anfang” placed first in LinguiSHTIK, Presidents, World Card, and Overall Social Studies; second in Overall Language Arts and Overall Sweepstakes. Morgan Goff of “Zum Anfang” placed second in LinguiSHTIK. Katarina Alatis placed third in LinguiSHTIK, Onsets, Presidents, and Overall Sweepstakes.

In Senior Division, “Slow Jamz” placed first in LinguiSHTIK, Overall Language Arts, Presidents, World Card and Overall Social Studies; second in Overall Sweepstakes; and third in Propaganda. “The Inner Circle” placed second in World Card and third in Overall Social Studies. Michael Mastromichalis placed first in LinguiSHTIK and Presidents; and second in Overall Social Studies. Xavier Veal placed third in LinguiSHTIK. Harry Olenick placed first in Overall Language Arts and Overall Social Studies; second in Presidents and World Card; and third in Propaganda. Ben Suter placed third in Presidents and Overall Social Studies. Evan Greco placed third in World Card. Michael Mastromichalis received the prestigious “Outstanding Senior” award from Dr. Layman Allen, co-founder of the National Academic Games Project.
