Krop’s tennis star Ryan Kim has it made. He’s currently No. 1 in the school, No. 3 in the state and is ranked in the top 40 in the nation. But what he hasn’t made yet is his choice for college.

Kim has been playing tennis since he was four years old.

“I started playing when my uncle bought me a tennis racket as a joke when I was two years old. Ever since then, that has been the sport I like best,” Kim said.

He practices and plays everyday, four hours a day. Weekends are also filled with tournaments and matches. In addition to tennis, Kim is also a gifted student juggling Advanced Placement classes and honors classes.

“One of the hardest challenges to overcome in my tennis life has been to be able to manage school and tennis,” Kim said. “Sometimes, to be able to keep up,I have to cut down on sleep.”

Recently, Kim has spent several weekends visiting many of the nation’s prestigious universities. He has been recruited by several schools, including Miami, Florida, Boston, Virginia, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth. He has not yet reached a decision on which school he would like to attend.

“I think I want to go to Princeton University because it is a good combination of great academics, an excellent tennis team and a great coach,” Kim said.

Coach Mike Kypriss, the schools tennis coach, has been a great help to Kim.

“He has helped me manage school and is a great coach,” Kim said.

“Ryan Kim is the perfect example of a student athlete, meaning that he has the perfect combination of a scholar and athlete,” Kypriss said.

This year, Kim hopes to improve his already loaded résumé with another state title.
