Music is the vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a
degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm. It’s a universal language but it speaks
to us all in a different way. I, myself, am eclectic but if you had told me a
month a go I would be watching a show that features Bon Jovi and Usher in the
same song I would have laughed. That was, of course, until I discovered Glee. It’s
a musical sitcom that evolves around the lives of eight high school students.
The show is a
quirky mix of drama - from pregnant teens, to affairs and lies – and comedy – ‘germaphobic’
counselors and dancing football teams – that keeps people watching. The story line
is fun and easy to follow, allowing viewers to join in on Glee Mania at any
time. Glee has an array of different characters who make the show fun to watch
and easy to relate too, not to mention it takes advantage of the newest musical obsession that started with High
School Musical and older musicals such as Rent and Hairspray.
The most
unique thing about the show is, of course, its music. The talented young cast performs
all different types of songs. The first few episodes featured songs by Bon
Jovi, Beyonce, Kanye West, Jordon Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Queen. Upcoming
episodes will include icons like Neil Diamond and Billy Idol. The songs
themselves had been climbing up the itunes charts with more than 1.1 million
downloads. Glee is the type of the show where you can’t help but sing along.
The “Gleek” population is getting larger every week and FOX’s new show is sure
to be a hit for seasons to come.
