Leading point getter Nick Brown puts on a juggling act.

With the Dragons boasting a two and six record the da Vinci boys’ soccer team has been playing its best soccer since the program began. The Dragons have been lighting up the scoreboard compared to recent years, almost doubling the goals scored from last year, and there are still two games left! Scoring has been lead by Joshua Missal with Nick Brown the leading point getter. Strong play in goal by Michael Thompson has kept us in every game and, with the defense stepping up in recent weeks, we hope to add to the win column to close out the season.

The season started with a tough first game loss against Riverside, who in my mind have hands for feet. But the resilient Dragons didn’t dwell on the terrible first game loss and came out scoring against a strong Emerson team. The da Vinci boys evened up their record with a three to zero victory. Next up was City Honors and well, we won’t talk about that one. Then the Dragons went up against McKinley, the boys jumped ahead on the scoreboard with a quick goal, but the Macks rush proved to be too much ending in a five to one loss. After a game where the Dragons had a better shot at winning than the score suggests, we played Performing Arts who brought their dancing shoes instead of soccer cleats and ended with a one to nil score and another win under the Dragons' belt. The next week was a rough one for the da Vinci boys who had to play three straight games against Grover, Hutch Tech, and Lafayette; the grueling toll of game after game after game with a mix of frigid cold weather resulted in three straight Dragon losses.

With the season winding down and the final two games just days away, if you haven’t caught a da Vinci boy’s game yet, now is the time to do it! Playing South Park and Bennett, the Dragons have a rather good shot at winning both of the games. With a tie last year against South Park and a heart breaking loss to Bennett, the Dragons are hoping to revenge last year with two wins to close out the season, and the best record in school history.
