On his way to only his second champion season for girls cross country, blue-haired Coach Kenneth Hans is ecstatic. Working day-in and day-out to train his runners, a sense of accomplishment should sink in for the devoted coach as well as all of his runners. Coach Hans is so devoted to his team that he actually promised to dye his hair blue if either one of this cross country teams (boys or girls) won the league championship. Thus the reason for his new hairdo.
Leading Coach Hans’ stacked girls team are Captain Anna Vuich, as well as Janelle Mitri, who captured first and second place in their last meet giving the girls crucial points. In addition to their amazing performances, eleven of their teammates recorded personal bests. This closed the door on any hope for victory over the dragons. With these numerous achievements I think it is safe to say the da Vinci cross country girls are tough to defeat. If you don’t believe me, ask Hutch Tech or City Honors.
Not to be sold short, the da Vinci boys also put up a valiant effort against powerhouse schools Hutch Tech and City Honors. Alas, they could not match the skill of these teams. Though they may have been defeated, the boys had a great season finishing at 13-2. They were lead by Marcus Anderson, Rodney Fletcher, Matt Seufert, and Tyler Baugh. The boys should be proud of their season and look forward to the future. Both teams face-off on Tuesday at the Rose Garden in the All-High meet.
