The exit exam, officially known, as the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) was first administered in the spring of 2001 to the class of 2004 to determine which students were ready to graduate and which students were still not adequately proficient enough in math and English.

Originally, the class of 2004 was going to be the first class required to pass the test in order to receive a diploma. Recently on July 16,the state board of Education decided that students lacked the preparation needed to pass the test and decided to postpone the test until 2006. The first class now required to pass this exam in order to receive a high school diploma is this year’s sophomores, the class of 2006.

The first class now required to passs this exam in order to receive a high school diploma is this year's sophmores, the class of 2006. The class of 2006 will be given the opportunity to pass the test in March 2004, according to Principal Jan Davis. The juniors and seniors who did not pass the exit exam will not need to take it in order to graduate, said Ms. Davis. In fact, the district has indicated that even the Write, Sharp and Topics test, the previous tests seniors needed to graduate, will not be required for these two classes.
