Venice High School Performing Arts Department will be presenting “Annie The Musical” in May, produced and directed by Ms. Traci Thrasher.
The musical “Annie” was originally produced in 1977. It is the tale of a runaway orphan “Annie” who gets adopted by billionaire “Daddy Warbucks” for the Christmas holidays.
Mrs. Thrasher, the drama teacher, has made slight changes from the original screen play. She took out a few songs. But the drama students will still perform about 30 songs.
Hanna Paz will be playing the violin for a few songs –“Maybe,” “Hard Knock Life,” and “Tomorrow.” “I think I’m gonna like it here in the play,” she said. “It’s very challenging but we enjoy it because we are working hard on it,” said Paz with passion.
“We’re all trying our best because it might be the last one and it’s the only chance we have for the musicals to continue,” said actress Reyna Reyes. “My expectations are for people to enjoy and for the effort we put in to pay off in the end.”
“If we’re not really profitable it could be because money in the district is tight. I need to sale a large amount of tickets so we can pay our bills and make a profit,” said Ms.Thrasher.
“Annie,” a 32- year legacy is still thriving. It’s been an American phenomena and icon. Her tradition is still living on today after years of Broadway performances.
