The average cost of  college tuition has definitely been rising recently, making it more difficult for many students to attend their college of choice. This year, the average tuition is $108 to $1,398 higher than last year's, according to collegeboard.com. 

The fact that the state is reducing funds for state colleges is a major issue causing this problem. 

The amount of high school students eligible for Cal States and UCs has increased 11% since last year. Unfortunately, this coincides with a cutback in admissions at many California public colleges. Cal States have announced that they will be accepting 10,000 less students, while UCs have also decided to cutback admissions. 

"It's tough because you need to find a lot of scholarships, and with tuitions becoming more expensive, the competition is becoming greater." said Ashley Ambrosio, a senior who will be attending UC Berkeley next year.

"It's hard to get Cal Grants, but my family is pretty well off, so I don't really have to worry about it." said Senior Ralph Lim, who is planning to attend Cal State Northridge next fall.

However, President Obama proposed steps last month that his administration will take to lessen the financial burden of college, such as reforming the Pell Grant program by increasing the amounts offered.
