In room A116, there has recently been an intense battle for this year’s homecoming theme! Mr. Gomez, the Business and Entrepreneurship marketing teacher, picked ten of his junior students to design the 2008 homecoming dance. When the project was first assigned, all ten of the female students who were chosen were stoked on working together, coming up with different themes, locations, ideas, etc. But when they were told to present these themes to Assistant Principal and ASB Advisor, along with Ms. Miles, another ASB Advisor, the tables were slightly turned.

The themes were narrowed down into two choices, the flamboyant “Masquerade,” and the classic, “Blue Carpet Affair”, so it was difficult deciding on which idea would become the final theme. Ms. Solorio made the decision of voting on which theme would be used. The results? A split decision! Students Laura Viera, Ashley Jolley, Aarianna Bussey, Claudia Munoz, and Dawyna Brown chose the risky yet different Masquerade, while students Taylor Gomez, Bianca Williams, Jordan Mitchell, Darianna Meyers, and Brittany Knox preferred the classy, simpler Blue Carpet Affair.

As time passed, tensions amongst the two teams started to sizzle! Both teams were told to create a descriptive presentation displaying each theme. The team whose vision was the clearest would be the winner. Both of the teams used critical research, creative ideas, and displayed awesome teamwork to grab the staff’s full attention. When presentation day arrived, each team did a fantastic job displaying the vision that they wanted to create. They did such a good job that Ms. Solorio as well as Ms. Miles had a very tough time choosing only one of the themes. Thus, the unanimous decision came about that both themes would be incorporated with one another in order to create a fun, new, exciting homecoming dance! Both teams were pleased, but most of all relieved!

The theme for this year’s homecoming is: A Masquerade Affair: Under the Stars! The Mustang community has never had such a theme in its history, but I can guarantee that it will be a night to remember! Now, I can’t give out too many details, you all will just have to wait until Saturday November 15 to witness the fun for yourselves. Hope to see most of you there!
