Local band Listen Listen released their first Album Friday September 18.

University of Houston Daily Cougar Sound writer Chris Brown had only positive things to say about the band

            “I think its refreshing because their bringing music back to its roots,” the critic said.

            Listen Listen is composed of four main members: Shane P., Ben G., and Jose C. and Marshall who are all young men in their mid-20s. All members of the three and a half year old band are from Houston excluding Ben even though he considers himself a “transplant” for being born in New England but raised in Texas.

            For Listen Listen, the most challenging part of making their first album was mixing 120 tracks.

            The album Hymns Of Rhodesia, took two and a half years to make starting with the writing process and is what the band calls “Anarchana/ Dark Comedy”; their own personal genre.

            The band agreed that the best track on the album would be “Safe Home, Safe Home in Port,”  Why you may ask?

“It’s got a hooky trumpet part - a beat that will stick in your head,” Marshall said.

“Watchman, Tell me part 1” is also another very great song that can be heard on the new album.

            Listen Listen is currently working on an extended-play record, an EP is longer than a single, usually 3-6 songs.

            The band plays at most venues in downtown Houston such as Mangos where they performed Friday night.
