For almost a week, right before
Open House, the Mission
Viejo MPR was transformed into a glorious hall of art, an unforgettable tribute to all who have labored intensively with paintbrush and pen, clay and plaster. Don’t take this art exhibit lightly, for behind the scenes, it is a delicate mixture of creating the art, judging which get to be displayed, cramming over 500 pieces into the room, passing out flyers to get the word out and creating labels for each piece of art. But fortunately, as Mr. Thompson points out, “We have a small army of mini-Fay clones that do all the heavy lifting.”
A few of the aspiring artists featured in the art exhibition are Johnny Bisaha, Sophia Hsieh, James Beck, Jennifer Kim, Emily Reynaga, Kennedy Hogue, Eric Roy, Greg Nowacki, Mike Boag, Brenda Segura, Robert Di Bella, and Luke Facer. All students should go to the exhibit to see their art because, according to Mr. Thompson, “…It’s a time in which we can dip our toes into a pool of creative juices that make us all better people for having taken the plunge into the world of MVHS art students.” Some new additions include work from 3-D Design classes and R.O.P graphics.
But, like always, there’s a class for everyone. For the students who are drawing-impaired and don’t know which end of a paintbrush goes on paper, there will be a new class which offers a spellbinding tour through the history of art, taught by Mrs. O’Neill. AP Art History will count for AP credits, something colleges always like to see. It is especially good for students who have taken AP Euro, as many of the art styles are covered in that class. The one downside to taking AP Art History would be the fact that it does not yet count as a history class, which means if one takes it, one will also have to take a second history class.
Art is never taken lightly here at Mission, and thanks to a variety of classes, there is bound to be a perfect match somewhere on campus. From Painting and Drawing, to Advanced Photography, any student can find a class that caters to his/her special needs.
