It is the question of, “What exactly makes this book so fantastic?” that keeps our hearts captured and our attention rapt. This movie is a heartwarming romantic comedy about a young farmer boy who fell helplessly in love with daughter of the man he worked for. They were tragically split apart and re-united after years they still loved each other deeply. The characters in this movie are priceless: the Spaniard who swears revenge on a eleven fingered man for killing his father, a power hungry prince who wants nothing more than to go to war and a lovely girl who was to be a princess if she chose to marry the man who was not the love of her life. The book The Princess Bride was made a movie nearly 21 years ago and it still has the popularity of when it first was released. The Princess Bride was originally a book written by William Goldman who had tired to make his book into a movie far back in the 70’s. Originally Arnold Schwarzenegger was to be cast as Fezzik (the friendly giant) because Andre the Giant refused to try out for the part. When the movie was to be made 12 years later Arnold had become too big a star to fit the budget and so Andre finally accepted the role and he played it perfectly. As for reading the book myself a year or so back I remember savoring every page and enjoying how closely the book related to the movie. One perk of having the author direct the movie was how well the characters were portrayed and how little they varied from the book. Both the book and the movie were stars in their categories and are highly recommended. Whether it is a perfect date movie or an all around good curl-up-in-bed book, it’s the best of both worlds. Go ahead, indulge in both and don’t worry guys, we won’t tell your buddys.
