Homecoming is coming up on Saturday October 25. The theme for this year is “A Red Carpet Affair,” brought to students by the senior class of 2009.

The idea is that Homecoming will be transformed into a glamorous Hollywood movie premier with people snapping pictures like the paparazzi. The pictures of the students will then be posted up on the wall as if it was a movie promotional advertisement.

“I like the theme. It means that everyone will try to dress as fresh as they possibly can,” senior Jeff Demas said

Not all stduents took to the theme as warmly. The idea also met harsh criticism.

“It, [the theme] is not very original. Everyone has done it by now,” junior Jake Flaming said.

Some people do not have Homecoming as one of their top priorities in the upcoming weeks.

“I do not care what the theme is. It will just be the same old people dressing up and dancing like they do every other year,” junior Kevin Salinas said.

Others do not have the time to focus on Homecoming because they have other priorities to attend to.

“I do not really care about Homecoming because I have to prepare for the football game that week,” senior Abdi Firissa said

This year’s Homecoming will be very different in that sponsors are trying to use more of the cafeteria to decorate, compared to the last couple of years when only the space in the corners and the middle was decorated, attempting to create more of a spread-out appeal.

This year there will also be lounges for people to socialize, instead of hanging around the entrance of the cafeteria. The lounges will be decorated with elegant tablecloths and candlelight illuminating the surroundings.

Sponsors are also picking the music for the evening ahead of time. A new system has been created to give students control over the Homecoming tunes. Music can be requested on a link off the school website. This year Homecoming promises to be a little different.
