Most people own some form of digital camera.. With such widespread and accessible technology, it is almost impossible for people not to take many pictures of themselves.
How many pictures is enough? Is it really worth taking hundreds pictures of oneself in one sitting? Taking pictures with friends is undoubtedly fun, but what will become of these pictures years from now? Most of them will probably end up in the trash.
It is understandable for families to take a lot of pictures for the purpose of preserving memories. What, however, is special about taking pictures with friends, colleagues and coworkers? Taking hundreds of pictures of people who do not have a significant impact in one’s life, or people he or she will not associate with after a certain period of time, is pointless.
The memory of those people will be more precious if there were less pictures of them; having hundreds of pictures of someone one will never see in his or her life is not just a waste of disk memory.
There is nothing wrong with professional photography, taking images of nature or creating art with a certain purpose. Even better, good photography is not restricted to taking images with expensive, high-quality equipment. People should take pictures with reasonable judgment of quantity and quality at their discretion.
People complain about being stalked on web blogs such as Facebook or Myspace, but they should realize that it is their fault for revealing too much personal information. Posting hundreds and even thousands of pictures of themselves online is perhaps one of the biggest ways that they unknowingly invite unwanted predators or onlookers into their personal lives.
It is ridiculous when one has to sift through hundreds of images of his friends online. There seems to be an endless number of photos! One might as well give up on looking through these pictures after the fiftieth photograph. Looking at pictures of others is now a leisure but a waste of precious time.
Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, but when unwanted photographs leak on the internet that is a very unfortunate problem. Most pictures are used to criticize or point out the faults of others especially in the media. It is a great invasion of paparazzi to take pictures of undesirably looking celebrities in the little time that they have to themselves.
Perhaps the paparazzi is not all that bad; without humiliating pictures of others, people would probably make pointless use of their time bemoaning how unlucky their lives are compared to the rich and the famous.
