The first Emmy Awards ceremony washeld on January 25, 1949, and 64 years later, the Emmys continue to recognizethe best of national primetime programming. This year’s 64th annual Emmys are sure to impress the public,honoring favorites such as Modern Family and Mad Men expected to go home withvictories.
This year, comedian and late-nighttalk show host, Jimmy Fallon is set to host the prestigious ceremony. Fallon is hoping to have a dazzling andmemorable show.
"I'd like it to be jazzy frombeginning to end,” said Fallon while at a TCA press tour.
Last year, HBO dominated the listof Emmy-nominated shows, with networks such as Fox, CBS, and ABC also making anappearance.
The Emmy winners are chosen by 15,000Television Academy members who vote to recognize today’s best primetime shows,in all areas from lighting to hosting, to supporting acting roles. The membersinclude performers, directors like Lee Miller, producers, art directors, andseveral more including make-up artists like Patricia Messina, and cinematographerslike Gary Baum.
This year is no different. As thesuspension builds, fans and critics can’t wait to see who is honored withprimetime’s highest recognition.
Mad Men heads the nominees pack with 17nominations in a drama series, along with American Horror Story in themovie/miniseries category.
Last year, Modern Family took homethe award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and this year, the show will lead thecomedy category with 14 nominations. Saturday Night Live also leads thecategory with 14 nominations, and 30 Rocks follows with 13 nominations.
“The writers do a great job ofcreating comedy that is perfect for the many distinct characters on the show,and they all come to together to create an insanely funny show .Sofia Vergarais my favorite actress on the show, her character is hysterical,” said ElianaBello, a junior in the Health Academy, of the show Modern Family.
The 84th Annual AcademyAwards snag 8 nominations in the outstanding special class programs category.
Dancing with The Stars is tied with TheAmazing Race with 7 nominations each in the reality series category, followedby So You Think You Can Dance with 6.
“George Harrison: Living in TheMaterial World” leads in the nonfiction special category with 6 nominations,while in the nonfiction series category, “Frozen Planet” leads with 5nominations.
