“Oh my gosh- this is ridiculous!”

This is the kind of reaction some people get when they go to get gas. Gas prices are rising so fast in all states that it’s hard to keep up. Why do you think this is? Amanda Davis, an English teacher at Pathways Middle College High School, says, “I think it has to do with tension in the Middle East and in politics. The fact that we can’t do anything about it scares me.” Another teacher at Pathways Middle College High School, Mr. Stafford, says, “There are all kinds of reasons for prices going up. Everyone involved needs to make a profit. The number one cause for prices going up is shortage and demand.”

Gas takes a lot of money out of a lot people’s pockets. A student at Pathways Middle College High School, Sarah Geeslin, says, “For the most part it takes a lot of money out of my pocket. Really just depends on how good of a month I have at work.” Imagine what it feels like every time you have to go get gas and see it’s raised yet another 10 cents in the past week. “Where am I going to get the money to pay for this?” Davis says. “Week after week my jaw drops at how high gas prices go up. I understand why they go up, but I think it’s pretty messed up” Geeslin says.

You see, many people have to rely on how good of a month they have at work to pay for their gas. When gas rises not only do you have to think about how much you can spend on gas, but also how much you can spend on extras. Or even the stuff you have to have. You have to have gas to get to work and school and anywhere else, but you also have to have enough money for food, and your bills. Gas is making people have to cut back on how much they spend on groceries. They are very limited on what they can and can’t have.
