Community service is a great way for GS students to give back to the public. Venturing to such places as all three district Elementary Schools, Greensburg Salem Middle School, the hospital, and several local nursing homes, GS students are proud to lend a hand in the community.

The course, which is open to seniors, is a great asset to add to a college application as well. Most colleges look very highly upon a student’s work outside of the classroom.

In addition to helping out other people, community service also gives students a look at possible job opportunities. For example, students will notice that the hospital offers a variety of career choices other than the stereotypical nurse and doctor positions.

Underclassmen should seriously consider choosing community service for their future schedules. The experience will surely return any student’s contributions by adding a very positive experience to his life as well as his college resume.

The class and the experience it provides will definitely produce a positive effect in the life of the volunteer and those he served.
