Rock the vote at GS. -
Advertising
The average student at GS won’t get the chance to vote in the upcoming election, yet many teens have followed the current political issues and have paid attention to the campaigns of presidential nominees.

In this way, young people have been able to take part in one aspect of the election process and have, in cases, even affected their elders who are of an eligible age to vote.

However, GS students needn’t turn 18 years of age before they cast a vote that counts. A school-wide “mock election,” held in the first week of this school year, gave them a chance to do so.

The results of the vote taken here would give current United States President George W. Bush a smile on his face, for he received an overwhelmingly large favor from the student body; 50 percent of the popular vote.

Presidential hopeful, John F. Kerry, won 35 percent of the popular vote, and no other candidate had a measurable following.

It is obvious to see, by reading the reasons given by each student for his vote, that a large number of “ballots” were not cast in any particular direction because of whim or popularity, but because of the solid beliefs of the voters.

The upcoming generation continues to place an interest in the status of society and involve itself in national politics.

By doing things as simple as watching the national conventions, students may easily take part in affairs concerning their country.
