The FFA Chapter Floriculture team attended the National FFA Convention, Oct. 23-27 in Indianapolis. The team, Renea Lawrence, Erin Powell, Laura Farrow and Josh Gilpin, was awarded 22 out of 47 teams. Gilpin earned a national gold individual award.
“We put together flower arrangements and a T.V. ad selling them,” Farrow, junior, said. She said it was fun meeting all the people and she would do it again.
“I enjoyed floraculture, but I would probably choose nursery landscaping if I do it next year,” Gilpin, junior, said.
The chapter also competed in the Northern Region FFA Land judging event in Crestwood with a team consisting of Josh Gilpin, Lizzie Moser, Jeff Johnson, Chris Adams and Cameron Pendleton. The team placed first in the regional competition, qualifying them for the state finals alongside Spencer County. Statewide, the team placed tenth out of 22 teams.
The chapter was one of five Kentucky chapters to earn a national 2-star chapter award for its past accomplishments.
Erin Powell, senior, summed up the team’s preparation for the events.
“If you work hard enough, you’ll get what you want,” she said.
