The fall play “Quilters” will be presented on October 22, 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. at the Arapahoe theater. The student director, senior Averill Corkin, talks about the upcoming play.
1. What is the play about?
“The play is called ‘Quilters’, and it’s about pioneer women in the 1900s and their stories told through quilts.”
2. How did you pick the leads in the play?
“Since the play has many characters, each cast member plays three to four characters. But, junior Karen Schevlov plays the lead character of mother Sarah Abonnom.”
3. What is the average amount of time you guys work outside of school?
“We started working from the second or the third week of school. We usually rehearse from 2:30 p.m. till 5:00 p.m., but there have been days where we go home around 3:30 p.m. as well. It really just depends on the day and what we are doing.”
4. How long have you been in the Drama Club?
“I started Drama Club last year, my junior year.”
5. Why did you decide to do “Quilters” for the fall play?
“This particular show is important because the characters are so relatable. It shows what it’s like to be human. Also, it’s really cool to see the pioneer women because they have so much history, history we can all relate to.”
6. How does the music aid in the production of the play?
“We usually don’t do musicals this early in the school year, but music adds a whole new dimension to the play. It adds to the story of these women. The harmony exemplifies feelings rather than melody.”
