Beware students and teachers! The summer break that you just enjoyed could be shortened if President Obama gets his way. He wants to make school days longer and summer break shorter. President Obama says American kids spend little time in school, putting them at a disadvantage with other students around the globe. Other students around the world go to school 25 to 30 percent longer than students in America. Obama says, “I want to just level the playing field.” Some schools have already added hours to the regular school day and have even made the school year longer. Beware, our school could be next!
. When I asked students and teachers what they thought about Obama’s idea the over all view was negative. When I asked Lori Yoder what she thought she said, “It is stupid, who would want to go to school longer.” I agree with Lori, school is long enough as it is, adding hours to the day will make it even worse. Rachelle has a very good point she said, “I don’t think it is fair that the people who work hard have to go to school longer.” Students are not the only ones that dislike Obama’s idea, teachers do too. Mr. Zobel said, “I think it should be kept the way it is.” I also think that it will complicate other things like sports. Practices will go way too far into the evening shrinking free time and time for homework. Our lives are busy as it is, why make them even more complicated.
Even though everyone’s opinion about Obama’s idea is negative I can see why he is enforcing being at school longer. He is trying to make America smarter and if making school days longer and summer break shorter then so be it. Sorry students and teachers at Garaway but some day it might come down to just sucking it up and going to school longer. Beware our school could be next.
