The Garaway Pirates golf team is starting to get geared up for the postseason which starts at the end of September.  The Pirates have a strong squad returning from last year’s state run that ended in a seventh place finish.  Returning from last year's squad is two year letterman, Kolt Andreas.  Kolt is a senior who is very experienced and knows how to really step-up when his team needs him to.  “I expect this team to do some pretty great things in the post season and end up playing my last match at the state tournament in October” said Andreas.  Also returning is Donny Beachy who is a three year letterman and has experienced three state tournament runs in his high school career.  “I feel this team has a lot of potential to some really great things in the post season” Beachy said.  Ryan Troyer is a junior and is a three year letterman.  Troyer has experienced three state tournaments, 2008 and 2009.  Adam Andreas is a talented young sophomore who played in the state tournament one year ago at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course. Adam is a one-year letterman and is looking forward to adding two more years on to that tally. Giles Immel is another one of those talented sophomores that has plenty of potential to make his name known in the Ohio Valley as a very solid golfer. “I plan to get better everyday for the rest of the season and get as close to where I need to be for the postseason. I know that if I keep working hard I will be putting up good numbers by the end of the season” said Immel. The Pirates are led by head coach Ryan Taggart and assistant coach Mike Felton.  Coach Taggart has been head coach for six years and has been apart of the Pirates for eight years. In Taggart’s six years as head coach he has been at the state tournament four of the last five years.  2004 was Taggart’s first year as head coach and had Kevin Miller who was a freshman make it to the state tournament.  That was Taggart’s first experience with the state tournament but was not his last.  In 2007, Taggart took his team to the state tournament and led them to a one shot victory over the powerful Columbus Academy.  In 2008, Taggart took his squad to state for the second straight year and again, came out victorious.  In 2009, Taggart again took his team to the state tournament and finished respectively in seventh place.  “I have high hopes for this team.  We have three kids that have experienced more than one state tournament.  If we just keep getting better everyday I know that we will be a happy team when our season comes to an end” said Taggart.  Garaway won the I.V.C. this season with a perfect record.  The Pirates won the preseason tournament at Black Diamond G.C. by 25 shots.  They also won the postseason by 24 shots over Hiland at Great Trail G.C. in Minerva.  The team also had five players that earned I.V.C. honors.  Ryan Troyer was named I.V.C player of the year.  Kolt Andreas, Donny Beachy, and Ryan Troyer were all named first team I.V.C.  Cody Mast, who is a sophomore, was awarded second team I.V.C honors.  Giles Immel was named I.V.C honorable mention.  The Pirates are set to play in the sectional tournament on September 28 at Willandale G.C in Sugarcreek
