Most schools would be happy making it to the sweet 16 in high school basketball but the Pirates were pretty upset with their regional semifinal loss to Chesapeake.  The Pirates lost to Chesapeake last year in the regional semifinal as well and this one definitely hurts worse.

The score was tied after one quarter of play at ten points each.  The Pirates were struggling though as they were missing lay-ups and were committing way to many turnovers.  The second quarter was a disaster for the Pirates as they committed many stupid turnovers and continued to miss easy shots.  The Pirates found themselves down ten at halt time. Garaway was looking for a spark in the third quarter t get them back in the game but it didn’t happen. It just got worse for the Pirates in the third quarter as they were down 21 at one point and looked like that was the end for the Garaway. The Pirates were not giving up that easy though. Garaway cut the Panther lead to just five points with 1:07 left in the fourth quarter. After a couple Chesapeake buckets and a couple Pirate scores, the game ended at 62-57 with Chesapeake on top.

“It was disappointing to lose to a team that we knew we were better than but at this stage in the game you can’t take two quarters off and expect to beat any team.” said Pirate junior Ryan Troyer.

“It was very disappointing but I’m so proud of these kids for not giving up. It got pretty intense and exciting at the end.” said Shutt.

The Pirates ended with a 21-3 record with losses only to Hiland, who will be playing in the state tournament, Tusky Valley, and then Chesapeake.
