Jerry Duncan surprises Kaleigh Evans with a Valentines Day gift. -

I love Valentine’s Day. It is a great time of giving and sharing. Not everyone, however, knows what to get one another for this special day.

In talking with several boys, many don’t participate in Valentine’s Day. The girls seem to be more involved than the guys. The one thing shared by both, though, was many didn’t know what kind of gifts.

Senior April Lacy thinks Valentine’s Day is a time for a couple to show their love toward one another.

“The idea is to give a gift from the heart, making it very special,” Lacy said. “It truly shows the meaning of their love for one another.”

Chelsea Bowers, an eighth grader, gives many gifts that are more traditional.

“I would give gifts such as flowers, candy, and a teddy bear,” Bowers said. “It also depends on the type of relationship like couples verses friends.”

Junior Kylie Isbell likes the simple gifts.

“I would like to receive a hug, a kiss, or an ‘I love you’, on Valentine’s Day,” said Isbell.”

Alex Holloway, a senior, believes Valentine’s Day should be a day for sweets.

“Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a time for lots of candy,” he said.

Richard Cassel Jr. believes that the little things show more meaning.

“My favorite gifts to give would be a card and candy,” Cassel said.”

Sophomore Carnation Sales

This year the Richland sophomores held a carnation sale for Valentine’s Day. The sophomore class sponsor, Beth Worley, felt that the sales went really well. Instead of just including the high school, they also included the elementary.

The carnations were sold at $2.00 each. Worley thought that this was an economical gift and made a great gift for a special day.

“I believe that carnations make a better gift than a card,” Worley said.
