The 14-member Three Angels Chorale from Hartland College, Rapidan, Virginia gave a concert for Laurelbrook students and staff members at Laurelbrook’s Sabbath vespers on January 13. Laurelbrook staff members Lisa Puffer and Matthew Barnum introduced the program with a welcome and prayer.

The chorale began with “Oh, Who Is the King of Glory?” A member of the choir introduced the members – they came from several foreign countries as well as the United States. Then the group sang “For Unto Us a Child Is Born” and “I Will Give You Living Water”. A chorale member reminded everyone that the Christ we serve is a living God. To serve Him we need to die to our old self so we can experience a new life through Christ’s death for all of us. The chorale continued with “There Is a Name I Love to Hear”, “He Hung There”, “Without His Cross There Is No Christ”, and “Bells Are Singing Christ Is Risen”.

A short talk followed by David, who had sung with the chorale last year. He reminded the audience of certain things:

1.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

2.

This verse is the essence of the Bible.

3.

At a school he attended, there were some small chickens. They had chicks that followed behind the parents until one day the students couldn’t find the chick’s parents. A student went to the jungle and found a wild hen. The hen adopted the little chicks and brought them again for food. A few weeks later David was working in the kitchen and heard an annoying noise in the backyard. The wild hen was making the noise so David killed the lizard. He saw the little chicks come back to the hen. He realized that the lizard had tried to get both the hen and the chicks – the hen had tried to get the lizard to get her instead of the chicks.

4.

This story illustrates God’s love for us.

5.

Students are here because God knew that this would be the best place for you. God wants to prepare you because He loves you. He wants your love back to Him, a relationship with you.

6.

Between 2000 and 2006, there were many important events – Katrina, earthquakes, Saddam out of power. These should warn you that Christ is coming soon. Make sure that your salvation is secure.

A small group sang “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”. The chorale’s pianist played “We Shall Behold Him” as a reminder that trials, pain, and suffering come and God gives us strength to go through these experiences. The chorale sang “Just Imagine” and “Blessed Hope”. For this number, former chorale members who were present were invited to sing this number with the chorale. The program closed with “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Laurelbrook staff member Matthew Barnum closed the program with thanks and a word of prayer.

Betsy Mayer was the director.

Note: since there was no printed program, the song titles are approximately what other similar songs would be named.
