Sabbath morning Laurelbrook Church members enjoyed a good Bible study both for Sabbath School and church in addition to some other treats. Sabbath School began with a song service by Joe Pulley accompanied not just by Raquel on the piano but by Claudia (an elementary student) on the violin), Anna (a freshman) on the flute, and Mrs. Debbie Hess on a stringed instrument. Amanda (a junior) had scripture and prayer, Ashley (a sophomore) read the mission story, and Claudia and Bradley (elementary students) picked up the penny offering. Mrs. Angela Pulley, the superintendent, then studied Isaiah 53 with the audience. Following are notes from that discussion titled "The Science of Love":

1.

Isaiah 53:1-2 = report of what Christ has done for us - unbelievable. John 3:15 - when believing in Christ a person has eternal life. His yoke easy and you can find rest (Matthew 11:28). The arm mentioned in these verses represents power (John 1:12).

2.

Isaiah 53:2 = Jesus was pliable to the Will of His Father. His holiness, purity, and character were rejected. The root signifies close relationship or origin. Jesus was submissive to His Father.

3.

Isaiah 53:3-9 speaks of Christ's sufferings. Verse 3 says that Christ suffered all the pains known to man.

4.

Isaiah 53:10 says that it please the Lord to bruise Christ. There was pleasure in the fact that we could be restored by the blood of Christ.

5.

Isaiah 53:11 poses the question of what we can do for Christ. The answer is to surrender to Him.

Amarachi (a 2003 graduate) had special music and prayer to end the program. Then students and staff broke up into their respective Sabbath School classes to study the nature of Christ and what it means to us.

--------------------------------------------------------

Church followed with Warren McDaniells from Kimbe Adventist Academy in Guyana, South America having the sermon. Following are notes from that sermon.

1.

Nehemiah 6:1-4 = Nehemiah went to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls. God expects us to go to world to deliver the message.

2.

Seventh-day Adventist are getting like the old Jews - debating the fine points of doctrine when they wshould be warning the world.

3.

Nehemiah had several distractions to take him away from his appointed task of rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. The heathen and church members tried to distract the workers from their tasks in several ways.

a.

Laughing them to scorn, suggesting that it was ridiculous to do what they were doing.

b.

People who were leaders held back and refused to make any effort to help (Nehemiah 3:5 and Prophets and Kings).

c.

Expression of doubt as to how long the workmanship would last (Nehemiah 4:2-3).

d.

Accusations of disloyalty to the government. We have a solemn obligation to deliver message - it is time to get up and out.

e.

Complaint that the work is too hard (Nehemiah 4:10). In the end, what you do for Christ will be the only thing that lasts.

f.

Spiritual leaders giving misinformation and warning of personal safety.

4.

We are living in the end of time with many distractions and little time left.

5.

If you discourage the workers of God, you are being used by the enemy.

Then Warren McDaniells gave a quick report in Kimbe, stating that they had 60 students not distracted by modern life and ready to evangelize Guyana. The school was getting the reputation that there a person could seek the Lord. It was becoming a privilege and honor to go to school at Kimbe. Please continue your support.
