At Laurelbrook, students get plenty of opportunities to practice public speaking and other skills necessary for to run a church. The most prominent of these opportunities are as a speaker for one of the serues of evangelistic meetings held yearly, but plenty of practice can be had on a typical Sabbath at the Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Sabbath, October 18, was no different. Sabbath School began with a song service by staff member Mario Coulombe. Then Joey (a junior) had the scripture reading and prayer. His sister Mandy (a junior) welcomed everyone. Christopher (a freshmen) read the mission reading about a couple's experiences in mission work in Bulgaria. Tishane and Reid (both sophomores) collected the Penny Offering, Laurelbrook's offering for student mission trips. Ashley (a sophomore) played her flute for the special music. Mandy then talked about the Holy Spirit for the superintendent's remarks.

While Sabbath School and church were going, a different set of students were practicing some very different skills. Elizabeth (a junior from Honduras) was acting as a student usher, greeting people and assisting residents from Laurelbrook's nursing home when they needed help. Gabriel (a junior) helped the adult deacons collect the morning's offering, Jose (a senior from Honduras) helped with the mike system, and Elizabeth ushered the congregation out of the sanctuary at the end of the church service.

Laurelbrook exists to train students, and every Sabbath students are trained to do their Master's work.
