Sabbath services on Sabbath, March 19 began at the Laurelbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church with a Sabbath School song service led by staff member James Brenneman, accompanied by retired music teacher Florence Paulk on the piano. Phyllis Driscol, sister to registrar Lois Davis, had prayer and read Revelation 1:3 – “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” Lois Davis then welcomed everyone to Sabbath School. Jack Williams, a retired missionary, then told a mission story from India. Lois ands Phyllis then sang “I Want Jesus” for special music. Lois Davis then studied the word “overcome” in the book of Revelation with the congregation. Included were these texts:
1.
Revelation 2:7 (all verses from the King James) “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
2.
Revelation 2:11 “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”
3.
Revelation 2:17 “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”
4.
Revelation 3:5 “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
5.
Revelation 3:12 “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”
6.
Revelation 3:21 “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
7.
Revelation 21:7 “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
The congregation then broke up into three Sabbath School classes taught by John Ellis, James Brenneman, and Joe Pulley on the subject of sanctification.
Services resumed at 10:45 with an invocation by local elder Clayton Brandt. He then welcomed everyone and called for the offering (church budget). The congregation then sang the doxology, and Clayton offered a prayer for the offering. The congregation then sang “I Would Be Like Jesus” as they waited for the satellite Prophecy Code meetings to begin. At 11:00, the satellite broadcast began with Pastor Doug Bachelor of Amazing Facts presenting the subject “Deadly Delusions”. The broadcast (and the church service) ended at 12:30. Clayton had prayer for the service after the broadcast finished.
Following are some ideas from the broadcast:
1.
With all the deceptions and delusions, the subject of death is a very important one.
2.
Nowhere does the Bible teach that the saints go to heaven and the wicked to hell immediately with all these people called back for a resurrection at Christ’s Second Coming and a judgment following.
3.
Instead the Bible teaches that people die, go into the grave, and immediately all their thoughts and whatever else deals with life ceases until Christ comes. The body returns to dust (dirt), and the spirit of life returns to God, who gave that breath of life to man.
4.
At the Second Coming of Christ, the Lord gives all the righteous a new body together with new breath and eternal life.
5.
Satan, however, would like everyone to believe (as many do) that the dead go directly to heaven and are witnessing everything taking place on this earth. They also come back, according to his satanic majesty, and visit the living every once in a while – a deadly delusion leading directly to spiritualism and the workings of devils in the last days.
