Lindenhur s t High School ’s

Varsity baseball team has begun to

hit a home run this season. Coach Mr.

Canobbio has “high expectations” for

his team this year; they are proving

themselves worthy. This twenty-two game

season started off on March 27

th, with a

win against Copiague 12-2. Sophomore

Mike Roehrig went three-for-four for his

first game with the Bulldogs. Senior Mike

Briggs was two-for-four with an amazing

five RBIs and three runs, and sophomore

Steve Skon also went three-for-four and

brought the Dawgs four RBIs. Pitcher

Tom Bammann (’10) threw only a twohitter

with one walk and seven strikes.

On March 30

th and 31st, the team

played William Floyd; both games ending

with wins. On the 30

th, Chris Chismar

struck out ten while allowing one infield

hit in five shutout innings and Matt

Snedden earned the save with two perfect

innings of relief to lead Lindenhurst in

all of League 1. Jon McGibbon went twofor-

two with one RBI and James Briggs

went three-for-three with a two-run

home run in the bottom of the sixth. On

the 31

st, with a very close score of seven

to six, Lindenhurst’s Mike Roehrig hit

a two-out two-run double to score two

runs in the top of the seventh inning. In

the bottom of the

eventful seventh

inning with two

on and two outs,

f i r s t b a s ema n

Jon McGibbon,

who had also hit

a home run to put

Lindenhurst in

the lead, saved

t h e w i n w i t h

a diving catch

down the first

base line. Junior

D a n D i B l a s i

also pitched five

innings of onerun

relief.

Even though a short winning

streak was now established, Lindenhurst

still had to face their number one

competitors: Ward Melville. On April

2

nd and a double-header on April 8th, the

Bulldogs faced a three game loss. Still,

the Dawgs had some great plays such as

the close game on April 8

th Junior James

Briggs hit two home runs and Ian Cullen

brought in one home run, ending the game

closely with Ward Melville scoring 8

runs while Lindenhurst, only one behind

with seven. The second game of the

double header ended once again with

Lindenhurst behind only by one, losing

3-2.

Recently, on April 16

th, the

Bulldogs played West Babylon, killing

them with eleven runs. West Babylon

only scored two. Highlights of the game

included James Briggs going two-for-two

with three walks, two RBIs and three

runs for Lindenhust. Dan DiBlasi and

Peter Romeo each went two-for-three,

scoring three runs, and Jon McGibbon

went two-for-five with an excellent home

run and two RBIs. Ian Cullen also went

two-for-two with an RBI and two runs.

Lindenhurst is currently four and

five. With thirteen games left, it leaves

a lot of hope for the Bulldogs to succeed

in the playoffs
