No matter what form of art you like, the ethnic festival in Cambria City has it all. One form of art that was really highlighted this year at the Ethnic Festival was dance. The festive weekend began with the opening of the new Bottle Works building. The new building will include 13 artists’ studios, art supply store, and a roof top café. For the opening of this new building, the Johnstown Ballet Company performed a modern piece entitled “Progressions” which they also performed at their spring performance. The building opened early in the evening for everyone to walk through and enjoy the art work that was set up, and at 7:30 the ballet company performed their dance, to a wonderfully excited crowd. The following day the Johnstown Concert Ballet performed again outside the Bottle Works on 3rd Avenue at 3:30 PM. This time their performance included more excerpts from their spring performance. They began with a beautiful classical ballet number entitled “Les Sylphides.” Next, three of the dancers that belong to Johnstown Concert Ballet also had the opportunity earlier in the year to be in the Outstanding Young Woman Scholarship Program. These three dancers; Kayla Esch, Eden Mishler and Sarah Orletsky, were able to grace the audience with their talented dances they performed as the talent portion of the scholarship program. The program continued with a dance entitled “The Dance of the Andes.” The music was very upbeat and had the crowd very aroused. However, the dance that surprised the audience the most was their performance of “Progressions.” The dance was a modern piece that was 10 minutes in length. The dance consisted of only nine dancers and these nine dancers danced throughout the whole dance. After a grueling twenty minute performance, the dancers that were able to continue with the last upbeat piece should be congratulated. Whoever said dancing isn’t a sport!
