“Fashion From a Freshman”
By: Stacee Glass
To anyone in high school, one of the biggest conundrums
is an age-old question: “What am I going to wear?” This question is especially
difficult for freshman, or anyone, entering high school for the first time.
Why? Well, appearance is everything, and even though we don’t like to admit it,
it’s true. So, what is high school fashion to freshman? To Libby Atterbury people in the high school,
compared to the middle school, “…express themselves more. People find new
trends [in magazines, online, on television] and try them with more
confidence!” They aren’t afraid to experiment and show their personality
through their outfits. Some of the words Atterbury frequently used to describe
high school fashion were “confidence” and “knowledge” because students do show
that they have enough confidence and knowledge about the world of high fashion
to be more experimental. To another
freshman,Leah Mercik, high school is“…more than just jeans and a tee shirt.People wear name brands, such as Aéropostale and American Eagle, with logos and sayings.” It’s more“fashion forward” as well. In the high school, there are more dresses and
fewer jeans. Students do not just wear denim and sports tees every day, they mix it up by wearing skirts, tunics, blazers, interesting accessories, etc. A common observance by freshman about fashion in the high school is that unlike in the middle school, people “see new trends and try them!” And they’re right.
So, what does this say about Westmont Hilltop High School compared to the world
of high fashion such as Rodeo Drive and Versace? Well, Westmont might not be
that bold to go as far as the fur covered clutch and chunky 7” heels, but we’re
almost there with daring jewelry and fun leggings! Bright colors, interesting
patters, and retro styles are in so, let’s try to wear more of them! We do try
new things, and to a freshman, this is much more fun and exciting “than just
jeans and a tee shirt.”
