A CROWD MOVING: Jumping off walls and people are one of the ways Kyle Shaefer gets a crowd moving. Here Kyle demonstrates, literally, ‘jumping off a wall.’ “One time I got hit by this girl, Kaitlyn,” said Kyle. “Now every time I go there, we hang out.”

We parked the beat up van across the street and piled out onto the street. Kyle Shaefer, Seth Shaefer, Janel Zeerip, Erin Englerth, Tyler Hagar, and Daryn Graham (all WHS students or graduates) headed across the street towards the Euclid, the local cafe. As he walked by, Kyle recalls seeing that the Euclid was packed with kids waiting for the show to start.

Voices became louder as he skipped down the sidewalk and around the corner of Skelletones, his home away from home. Flatfoot 56 was playing that night and he remembers his heart beating fast with the excitement.

He climbed over the rail and walked inside the door, stopping to pay Annette, the lady sitting behind the table who stamped his hand with a “WIRED”.

The anticipation in the room grew as the band was setting up. When the first note rang out, he threw himself into the circle pit. He pushed and was pushed back.

“I became ecstatic in the fury of the music and jumped off of the walls and random people, dragging whoever I could into the pit with me.” Kyle Shaefer said.

The last note of the first song rang out and the pit should have ended, but he and his friends kept the pit going until the next song started.

During one of the songs, Kyle said he put his hands on top of people’s shoulders and attempted to push himself above the crowd.

At that same moment someone in front of him decided to jump up in the air, hitting their head on his chin, causing him to bite a hole in his lower lip. Despite Kyle’s wound, he remained up front next to the stage until the show was over.

“The Flatfoot 56 show was definitely memorable,” Kyle said. “It was the best show I had ever been to.”

The story above about a show describes one memorable category/genre of music. There are other types of music that can bring about different actions and feelings.

For instance, attending a symphony would result in that person remaining in their seats, allowing the music relax them. Tickets to a jazz show might make that person feel calm and may give them the urge to dance.

Different genres of music bring out different actions and emotions in people. One thing is for sure; students like Kyle Shaefer enjoy going to concerts for the lasting memories.

“Being able to spend money to get tickets, hitching rides, and then spending the rest of your money on merchandise all adds up to an unforgettable night,” senior Kelsi Petry said.
