Prom Planning

At an after school meeting, seniors Bailey

Wallace, Whitney Stuckey and Samantha Snyder look through a

Stumps catalog for ideas and decorations. The committee met

twice a week since the middle of February in order to prepare

for the event with decisions such as food, party favors and door

prizes. “Just to get everything all planned out is stressful,” Whitney

said. “But it will be rewarding in the end since I did a lot so

far to make it happen.”
On April 26, the seniors will attend

their last dance in high school before

walking the stage and graduating on

May 31.

But before they can finish out the year, there

are still the preparations involved before prom.

“Because this is our last year, I want our

prom to be the best and that’s the real reason

I joined the prom committee,” senior Bailey

Wallace said. “Hopefully, with everyone that we

have, this year’s prom will be one of the most

diverse ones, and people will like it.”

Other students who have helped create the

atmosphere like senior Kenneth Gowans also

deal with preparing how their own evening will

go.

“So far I’ve been fitted for my tuxedo,”

Kenneth said. “I already have the limo rented

as well, but that’s about it as of right now.”

But while committee members Bailey and

Kenneth plan out how the dance will appear

and what food they will arrange to be served,

other students such as senior Clinton Eaton also

plan what else they will do after the dance.

“After the dance, a couple of friends and I

plan on hanging out afterwards,” Clinton said.

“That, and the limo rental, is all I can really

do right now since the guys can’t really start

planning anything else until the girl decides on

their dress.”

Yet, people like senior Whitney Stuckey don’t

always have enough time to balance everything

evenly for events such as prom.

“I still need to get my dress,” Whitney said.

“All of the planning involved with being on the

prom committee has really stressed me out. We

started planning in February and I believe that

planning this early has helped us accomplish

a lot.”

As of now, the members of the prom

committee visited the location of the dance,

planned the menus with caterers, discussed the

layout for prom and requested donations from

various businesses. Their jobs on the committee

continue up to the final two days before prom

takes place and they are relieved of their duties.

All that remains is the decorating that will take

place April 26 in the morning.

“I think that after everything is done, it will

all be rewarding in the end,” Whitney said. “I

think one of the best things about being on the

committee is having the ability to have a say in

what’s going on in our prom.”
