I think that, as a first time voter, the whole system leaves much to be desired in terms of organization as far as I was concerned. Firstly, I think the polls need to open earlier to accommodate students and people whose jobs begin early. The lines are daunting and disparaging enough to discourage even the most patient voters. At my polling location, there were only three people assigned to the entire alphabet. The simple matter was that one person was doing work registering people the whole time while the person next to them had absolutely nothing to do. Once I got my ballot voting was relatively easy however the wording was exceedingly devious and obviously designed to confuse. When I was done filling in the Scantron (is this a test I thought to myself), I walked on over to the scanning machine and was told I needed to fill out a new ballot because of a tiny stray mark. The complete incompetence of the floor worker was astonishing. The machine beeped and seemed to signal a breakdown of intelligence amongst the volunteers. The main coordinator was instantly called upon to render a verdict and made me wait in line for another ten minutes simply to color in the bubbles. The whole experience wasn’t horrible but it is my duty and I take pride in the fact that I have completed my civic duty.
