On Halloween, the Upper School Spartan Chess Club, sponsored by Peter Konen, brought home its second 1st Place trophy! The team won the K-12 (high school) division at the second of six Grand Prix tournaments hosted by MCDS. In addition to the team victory, Moshe Libbin won a 5th Place trophy in a very competitive high school division, with his only loss being to the individual champion. Michael Fine also did very well for the Spartans, finishing with 4 wins in 5 matches. Ian Gonzalez, Devon Zifferblatt, A.J. Pitchman, & Shadi Tabbara all had winning records for the day and represented MCDS well.

From the Lower School, Elliot Starkman won his second trophy of the year for finishing in 3rd place in the K-1 division. Andre Harper-Rosenberg, also a repeat trophy-winner, finished in 5th place in the K-3 section. Christopher Basile scored for the K-1 MCDS team in his first ever rated tournament.

Registrations have grown from 117 participants in the first tournament to 146 entrants this past Saturday. The next tournament will take place on December 5 in Garner Center.

An event of this magnitude cannot take place without the help of many. Diana Starkman, Carroll Kelly, Jasmine Lake, Peter Konen, Jonathan Knowles, Mike Caban, Kristi Kassebaum, Jennifer Kahn, Chuck Sennett, Leo Milanes, and Adrian Garcia all helped make MCDS an enjoyable place for families and players to enjoy a day of chess. Thank you!
