Some people think that their education is sufficient, but others think that it’s poorly taught, and that students could get a better education if they had teachers who really want to pursue helping students gain knowledge. Classes are important to students, especially their favorite ones, mainly because of how the teacher communicates with them, and also because of how the teacher helps them learn the material.
Janet Cruz a sophomore at Schurz High School stated her outlook about education in her classes. “Well, my opinion on school education is that in my classes, I get the vibe that my teacher has excellent motivation to engage in my class work because they help me understand the material by drawing examples on the board or acting out a scene in a play. Those classes I’m passing, but in other classes I see that some teachers I have aren’t inspiring enough. I don’t think some teachers are helpful because at times I would ask them for help and they don’t like to participate in helping me understand.”
She also stated that she had a favorite class, “My favorite class is photography. Photography is exciting because we take pictures, which I love to do, and my teacher is a huge inspiration. My other favorite subject would have to be American literature, some people think that reading is dull, but having the right teacher makes it fun to interact with the material that we’re reading.”
In addition, many students think that the school’s education is beneficial, like a sophomore at Schurz High School named Lisette Guel. She stated, “I think our school’s education is good or average depending on our classes. In my honors classes, my teachers expect more from us and try to help us get ready for college and mature in life. My favorite class is geometry because I actually learn something new everyday, and it’s exciting to learn something different instead of staying on the same subject for months like other classes.”
Samantha Deleon, a sophomore at Schurz High School agrees with Lisette’s opinion. “My opinion is that there are some teachers that don’t give as much effort that they should to make class interesting. I’m not saying every class is boring, but some classes can be less entertaining. An education can be challenging but there has to be some excitement, something that everyone can enjoy coming to. I think it can be fun but some teachers have to lecture every 45 minutes and that’s pretty boring, but it can be stimulating when you put your mind to it!”
Student’s opinions are important, and they think that they should be heard, because if they’re not learning the way they want, then they’re not going to want to learn at all. Many students think that if they had a teacher who was exciting and made the material interesting, then they would be very interested in learning and going to class everyday.
