It’s finally here…The annual model car competition is here! The yearly event where for the fun of it students who are in automotive classes compete together by building and customizing their own model cars. The competition takes place in Carl Schurz High School from November 26 through mid January.

Introduced by Ms.Terry who is the automotive instructor, the model car competition is awaited by all three of the automotive classes which include first year sophomores, second year juniors, and third year senior. The objective of the competition is to build, paint, and add customizations to the model. Students have two months to create their final models, plus three essays. The first essay is an explanation of why that student chose that car to work with; the second essay gives some background on the car’s manufacturer; the third and final essay describes what makes the car unique or different from all the cars in the industry.

When the final due date arrived, the next step was up to the class. Every student voted on which car overall was the best. The same was done with all three automotive classes. The first place winners of all three classes then present their models to the judges. The first place winner takes a money prize and all three cars are displayed in a glass showcase.

The competition is not as easy as it might sound. A student enrolled in the competition said, “The hardest part of this is when you open the box containing the stencils with the models pieces and you aren’t even sure where to begin.” Another competitor declared that, “What is most intensifying is that you have to work as good and as much as possible because you don’t even know how the other model cars look.”

The model car competition demands that the competitors use their extreme imaginations if they really want to succeed. Check out this year’s winners and get ready to be amazed at their creativity.
