“That effort at the end of the game was tremendous. That type of defense right there is going to win our conference!” coach Shelton encouraged his players after their loss to Thorton Fractional North on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. The Bulldogs struggled through the first half of the game only managing to score twelve points to Thorton Fractional North’s thirty-three points.

As the third quarter wound down, the Schurz scored only eleven more points to make the score T.F. North 46, Schurz 23. With three second left in the third quarter, Schurz inbounded the ball to Willie Sandifer. Sandifer took the shot and hit nothing but net to make the score 26 to 46, igniting Schurz to a fourth quarter rally.

“I think that they were sparked by the substitutions; they made good defensive plays. When the starters came back in, they continued the defensive pressure and brought offense to match it,” Assistant Coach Jeff explained about the fourth quarter explosion. In the fourth quarter Schurz did everything right; the bulldogs created turnovers, pressured the ball, and just started to play smart basketball.

“I expect the momentum and intensity to carry over to Thursday’s game. Schurz will win by eleven,” Coach Jeff insisted when asked about Thursday’s game against Wells. If Schurz expects to win this one, they have to play with the fire and intensity they had in the fourth quarter against Thorton Fractional North.
