With spring around the corner, the high school girls’ varsity soccer team has once again begun their conditioning for the upcoming season. This year marks Austin Benton’s second year in a row coaching the Lady Rams.
Team captains Katja Edelman, Katie Coppaken and Danielle Singer will lead the old and new additions to the team. With a great turnout this year, the Rams are expecting to have 15-17 high school players and possibly a few from middle school.
“I’m not looking for a prefect season of wins, I’m just looking for as much teamwork and effort we can put forth,” says Upper School soccer coach Austin Benton.
With hour and a half practices Monday through Thursday, the Rams have a lot of hard work cut out for them this year. The team is going to have to push themselves even harder in both practice and games. Last year’s dismal record is spurring both coach and team to give their all this season. They wont only have to strengthen themselves as individuals, but as a team. The first game of the season will be an away game on March 20 against Christian Prep. The rest of the games will take place almost every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Offensively the Lady Ram’s will try to better last season’s efforts significantly. Working on both speed and agility is key to a victorious season. Coach Benton emphasized that teamwork is crucial and if the Lady Rams achieve that goal, he will consider the season a success regardless of the record.
Said Senior Captain, Katja Edelman, “We hope to start off strong this year and hopefully have a positive winning percentage. This year, all the girls are excited to play and we all know that we have the will to win. Hopefully we can use these strenghts to have a great and successful season. It is up to our senior leadership to lead the team and build the program so that is stronger in the next few years.”
The Rams are ready for their season and have had many practices which have prepaired them for the upcoming year. Watch to see the Rams coming out strong this year.
