Despite loses to rivals K-State and Missouri, Kansas is now in third place in the Big 12 with a 5-2 league record and a 16-6 record overall.

They players have improved, and many fans are confident in the young Jayhawk.

“They can compete against almost any team in the country. I definitely trust the guards decision making and outside shooting from everybody has definitely gotten better,” said freshman Cory Gutovitz.

“This team is good this year and almost more fun to watch because they have such a different look than the Nick Collison and Wayne Simien years” said Senior Aron Mandelbaum.

After the loss in Columbia, the Jayhawks bounced back with a strong performance in Lawrence verse Nebraska. They won 96-54 with five players scoring in double figures.

Many fans agreed that the players that had not been playing so well definitely stepped it up.

“(Senior) Jeff Hawkins and (Freshman) Julian Wright played so well. They both were hitting their shots and doing other things as well to make their teammates better,” said Gutovitz.

After a big win against Nebraska, it was time for the Jayhawks to get ready for their next game: Texas A&M. While Texas A&M does not have a strong reputation as a basketball powerhouse, they are a team on the rise with lots of talent.

KU was losing by a basket at half-time 31-33, but with a very impressive effort by Freshman Mario Chalmers and Sophomore Russell Robinson, they pulled away with a 10 point win on the road.

KU connected on 75% of their free throws which sealed away the win 83-73.

Next stop: Ames, Iowa! The Jayhawks took on the Iowa State Cyclones in which was suppose to be a tough game because ISU is known for their home court advantage.

“I think the players are getting an idea about who they are and what their job is on the team. I think things are coming together,” said Gutovitz.

The team continues Big 12 play where no team is dominating.

Almost any team has any chance to win games. Kansas needs to keep playing hard and never take any team too lightly because come NCAA tournament time, KU will be very dangerous and hopefully, that’s when other teams will take them lightly. And, Academy students will be watching.
